Tea-Party for 4+4

I know this should be fictional and a flight of fancy, but sometimes flights of fancy realise! I dropped sufficient hints about my desire for a tea-party, and after inadvertent eavesdropping and peeks and receipt of an e-vite meant for a friend, this was what ensued:

I was specifically told not to get involved but ordered to wear pink purple and/or grey, and a hat! Continue reading Tea-Party for 4+4

Forbears & Forbearance

Top ‘o’ the morning to All

It has been some time since I posted. The preceding post was the verse from Sura 17 about our obligation towards our parents. Below is a hadith of Rasul saws:

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6189    Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah’s Messenger (saws) said: ‘Let him be humbled into dust! Let him be humbled into dust!’ It was said: ‘O Allah’s Messenger (saws), who is he?’ He (saws) said: ‘He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he does not enter Paradise (through his deeds of service towards them)!’

My parents have recently both been ill, my father perhaps more so, although who can ever measure these things?

I flew home with my sons to visit for a week and my father thanked me. Not for coming home although i suppose that was included, but more significantly, he thanked me for my company throughout my lifetime. My daughter and husband are there to visit him now.

Parents

Chapter (17) sūrat l-isrā (The Night Journey)

Sahih International: And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.

Pickthall: Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with thee, say not “Fie” unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.

Yusuf Ali: Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour.

Shakir: And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) “Ugh” nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word.

Muhammad Sarwar: Your Lord has ordained that you must not worship anything other than Him and that you must be kind to your parents. If either or both of your parents should become advanced in age, do not express to them words which show your slightest disappointment. Never yell at them but always speak to them with kindness.

Mohsin Khan: And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

Arberry: Thy Lord has decreed you shall not serve any but Him, and to be good to parents, whether one or both of them attains old age with thee; say not to them ‘Fie’ neither chide them, but speak unto them words respectful,
