Ramadan Whispers – BAML

An intended group of youth (and youthful) muslimahs, the BAML, has been over the past three years or so, soliciting donations in non-perishable items to organise Ramadan baskets for distribution amongst the community. As always, there is the dilemma that given that charity is best done silently, but organised efforts needs be whispered about. And here is a whisper. Continue reading Ramadan Whispers – BAML

Al-Furqan Ayah 74:
“Our Lord, grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us the grace to lead the righteous”

Beloved Daughter turns 16 today – an age in Bim where she can now apply for a driver’s permit, finish 5th Form, select some other tertiary education, strive to be the coolness of her parents’ eyes. A long skinny babe stretched out on her father’s chest, a wriggler who always finds the non-existent space between her parents, the kid with unrecognised stamina, the puller of her pillow from beneath her newborn brother’s body, the washer of dolly in the toilet, the snazzy, the cute, the weird, the eclectic, the edgy, dresser, the talker, the helper, the bossy, the domineering, the right even when wrong, the baker, the fuzzy haired, the pimply girl, the HajjBuddy, the vertically challenged, the friend, the dreamer, beloved Niece, beloved Grand-Daughter, defender of her brothers, nag, beloved child.

May Allah swt shower you with His Choicest Blessings and grant you Mercy

Travel the Earth – Aid to Remembrance

An Ounce of Home

You’re embarking on a yearlong round-the-world adventure, and can take only one small object with you to remind you of home. What do you bring along for the trip?

Sura Al-Ankabut:

Say (O Muhammad): Travel in the land and see how He originated creation, then Allah bringeth forth the later growth. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.

Vote of Thanks

Yesterday I was conscripted to deliver the  vote of thanks at a function memorialising my late father. Having been listening to Yasin Qadhi on the tafseer of Sura al-Kahf, and the theme of the Men and the two Gardens, (I tried to insert link to Qadhi here but crashed) it was uppermost in my mind that a major wrong committed by us (probably out of an overabundance of politeness) was our thanking persons without recognition that all emanates from Allah swt and that first and foremost thanks should be given to Him. With that in mind, my task was a simple one – to thank Allah swt for affording us the opportunities to do good deeds and the abilities to make the choices to do good over any other task. So no one else’s name was called (thereby ensuring no one was forgotten).

I ended with a Qur’anic dua:

“Sura alQaaf, Ayah 15

My Lord, grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for your favours which you have bestowed on me and my parents and that I may do righteous good deeds that will please you and admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous slaves”
