Travel the Earth – Aid to Remembrance

An Ounce of Home

You’re embarking on a yearlong round-the-world adventure, and can take only one small object with you to remind you of home. What do you bring along for the trip?

Sura Al-Ankabut:

Say (O Muhammad): Travel in the land and see how He originated creation, then Allah bringeth forth the later growth. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.

So, shall we go forth and traverse the earth, marvelling at His wondrous creation.

Like many others, the things that remind one of home reside in the heart and/or the mind. They are inanimate without being capable of being physically touched.

On our trip to Saudi last year, what proved the most used and useful reminder of home, because of its practicality, was my aunt’s iPad, through which we Skyped with the homebodies, and my preferred BlackBerry for photos and text – that one object which I would carry would be the multipurpose electronic device that gives connectivity to home and loved ones.

“Only in remembrance of Allah (swt) will your heart find peace” (Surah 13: Verse 28)
