The moon was sighted signalling the start of the 12th month of the Islamic year, and the month in which the first 10 days are significant. For BD and me, it has brought back memories of where we were one year ago, but for all of us, it is a time for us to examine whether we have the nisaab that qualifies us to perform the qurbani/udhiyya incumbent on each of us who is mature, competent in mind.
Have you found the animal yet which is free of defects and whose hair or wool will gain you many rewards in the Hereafter, when you are present at its slaughter on one of the three days of Eid ul Adha – the 10th 11th or 12th of Dhul Hajj – provided of course that you approach the udhiyya with the right intention?
If the animal you buy is lost, stolen, or dies prior to Eid, it is incumbent on you to procure another. Unfortunately, we have already heard of animals being purchased, and when the purchaser turns up to collect it, the seller was not the person with the right to sell; and of animals purchased, but killed without more by persons unknown. Many now are the instances of just the head of the animal being found when owners return to pastures. Allah swt is the All-Knowing.
The end of August and its successor September have always been highlighted months in our family calendar what with Younger Brother, Youngest, Eldest Niece, and Dad. Well, Dad’s gone (and we pray that Allah swt have mercy on his soul), YB just turned 40 (see Qur’an 46:15 and ), EN is away, but Youngest is HERE!
So while YB took Youngest and Youngest Niece to the water park and and then along with BD, N2S, and HRM1 to Playdium, Youngest dictated that he wanted three friends over to …..play video games. Are all persons born after 1990 born with a chip in them that enables them to play video games? Rhetoric aside, that was his wish. So…………with siblings seriously pitching in, three boys over, food cooked, fruit cut, cheesecake baked, poultry barbecued, video games and football, and voila………………
Somewhere in all female bookhounds is I think, a person who wishes to recline loosely garbed in a toga with curls piled atop her head upon a chaise lounge nibbling on bonbons and …..reading.
So on a Saturday morning with all progeny absent the residential dwelling with their sire with no second vehicle to locomote me and no desire to do so, what to do? No house to clean, no produce to procure, a veritable cornucopia of self-entertainment…………..
Should I read? Should I watch? Should I play? Should I surf? Should I blog? Should I…….
play wordbiz online while watching Julie & Julia a show about two women searching for something to occupy their leisure time and who both cook and write…………………………
Enjoy your Saturday. Play is important!
