Who are the people in your neighbourhood?

So I realized that my last post (of that totally scrumptious looking chocolate & caramel cake) may have been under the triviality bar, and thought back to the springtime tea affair which my neighbour hosted over the weekend, and then ….I googled.

From the islamawareness website, I found the following hadiths on neighbours:
BEHAVIOUR WITH NEIGHBOR
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“He will not enter Paradise whose neighbor is not secure from his wrongful conduct.”

– Sahih Muslim, Hadith 15

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Amr ibn Sad ibn Muadh from his grandmother that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ”

O trusting women, none of you must consider even a roasted sheep’s trotter too small to give to her neighbour.”

– Malik Al-Muwatta, Volume 49, Number 25

Malik related to me from Zayd ibn Aslam from Amr ibn Muadh al-Ashali al-Ansari that his grandmother said,

“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘O trusting women! Let none of you despise giving to her neighbour even if it is only a roasted sheep’s trotter.’

– Malik Al-Muwatta, Volume 58, Number 4

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

The best friend in the sight of Allah is he who is the well-wisher of his companions, and the best neighbour is one who behaves best towards his neighbours.

Transmitted by Tirmidhi. – Al-Tirmidhi, Number 120

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said,

“The best companion in Allah’s estimation is the one who is best to his companion, and the best neighbour in Allah’s estimation is the one who is best to his neighbour.”

Tirmidhi and Darimi transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a hasan gharib tradition. – Al-Tirmidhi, Number 1287

BE KIND TO YOUR NEIGHBORS

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“If you are kind to your neighbor, you will be a believer. If you like others to have what you like for yourself, you will be a Muslim.”

– Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1334

BE GENEROUS TO YOUR NEIGHBOR

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever believes in God and the Last Day should be generous to his neighbor.”

– Al-Muwatta, Volume 49, Hadith 22

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“If anyone is pleased to love God and His Messenger or to have God and His Messenger love him, he should speak the truth when he says anything, fulfill his trust when he is put in a position of authority and be a good neighbor.”

– Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1289

A man once asked the Prophet:

“How can I know when I do well and when I do ill?” The Prophet replied: “When you hear your neighbors say you have done well, you have done well; and when you hear them say you have done ill, you have done ill.”

– Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1288
